Zoe Saldana (born June 19, 1978) was born to Asalia Saldana and Aridio Saldana, who reside in Passaic New Jersey. Her father was Dominican and her mother is Puerto Rican. She was born in Queens, New York. Her family relocated from Queens in New York in the Dominican Republic when she was 10, and lived in the Dominican Republic for 7 years. Zoe developed a passion for dancing while in the Dominican Republic. Her first training was at ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy and was there to learn ballet and other forms of dance.
